The launch of tree planting and agriculture activities at the University of Technology/Chemical Engineering Department, coinciding with National Tree Planting Day.

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Mohsen Noori Hamzah, and on the occasion of the National Afforestation Day, the activities of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology were launched on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, to celebrate this day, with the attendance of the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Farhad Muhammad Othman, the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Khawla Salah Khashan, the Ministerial Committee and the volunteer team of the Ministry of Environment, represented by the Assistant Director of the Baghdad Environment, expert Lamia, and the technical staff. Many different shade and seasonal plants were planted in the department’s gardens, and many sustainable student activities were held that deal with agriculture and afforestation.

In this regard, Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, indicated that the day’s activities are part of a series of activities undertaken periodically by the department to support and implement planned green and sustainable projects within the Green University Program. These activities include increasing cultivated areas and maintaining the university’s gardens and preserving their sustainability through tree-planting campaigns, planting various types of evergreen plants, and planting seasonal flowers. It also represents a practical step towards implementing the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which designated National Tree Planting Day in conjunction with the initiative to plant five million trees and palm trees, launched by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani  to combat desertification. The Green Technology Team and the Sustainable Operations Team, which includes students and faculty from the Chemical Engineering Department and focuses on green and sustainable engineering technologies, participated in these activities.
